6 Reasons Smoothies are Awesome and how they help us

I am in heart with smoothies. I was turned on to this healthy lifestyle by my BFF IrieDiva, and my life has been transformed by it. I can now formally say that this is not a diet but a lifestyle change, I have never felt better, energized, glowing skin and better digestions. Here are 6 reasons why you should implement smoothies in your life.

1. Quick and Easy

It takes 10 minutes from start to finish to prepare and blend a smoothie. Take a day and do your prep work after you go shopping.  For more on how to prep veggies and fruits read here.
Throw your ingredients in a blender or bullet what you want in the blender (my bullet is still in transit) and a little water or leftover juice and blend away.

2. Conserve Time

Smoothies can be used as a meal replacement which will save time cooking our sourcing that particular meal. Time spent in the kitchen will be reduced, especially if you are on a eat clean-living lifestyle. That kind of lifestyle has you prepping fresh meals every day or batch cooking. For me, I will always have to cook dinner because I am most definitely married to a Jamaican man who requires yams and dumplings. #nuffsaid

3. Kids Love Smoothies

If you have a toddler there is no end to the struggle to get them eating the right portions of the right fruits and veggies. I have learnt that combining all those nutrients in one tasty drink will alleviate that issue, especially with a picky eater. With smoothies you can control what they are exposed to in their diet, you can determine their sugar intake, portion sizes and so forth.

4. Weightloss

We spoke about replacing a meal you will conserve time. However, replacing meals are a little more technical if your goal is to lose weight. Weight loss, if not done correctly, can cause loss of nutrition and weight gain. Here is where research and trial and error will come in.
I have found, if you track what you eat then you will be able to see what is working and what is not. Going on a smoothie “diet” can be a mental strain to do your research.

5. Packed with Goodness

Smoothies are packed with a wide array of vitamins, minerals, sugars, amino acids and protein, which is dependent on what you put together.

6. Variety of Creations

Again, depending on what you need and how you feel or even what results you are targeting, In terms of your health, you can gauge what you put into your smoothies. If you have a sweet tooth you may do more fruits. Apples, bananas and pears which are quite sweet.
By the way, carrots are quite sweet too. If you hate veggies and you do not get enough you can incorporate more veggies like kale, carrots, and spinach.
Almond milk, water or coconut water can change your go-to smoothie into something exotic. Nuts, herbs and spices can give it a nudge in a different direction as well. My point is your creations are endless.
I have done all vegetable smoothies using honey to sweeten and then the following week I would do all fruit smoothies.  When you start out, take it slow and gradually introduce vegetables, nuts and herbs. Before you know it, you will just go all ham and start putting cheese and stuff in your smoothies.
